Senior Associate
Brigadier General (ret.) Hans Damen connects society, defence, logistics, and innovation. He built an impressive record of service with the Royal Netherlands Army and the Ministry of Defence. Hans graduated from the Royal Military Academy in 1984 with a degree in Economics and Finance and furthered his education at the Netherlands Command and Staff College and the Netherlands School of Public Administration.
Complex operations and intensive (inter)national cooperation have been hallmarks of his 40-year career. Hans was deployed to Albania and Kosovo and represented Dutch defence interests as a diplomat at NATO in Brussels. Hans served as commander of several logistics units and held the role of J4 for both the Royal Netherlands Army and the Ministry of Defence. He introduced social media within the military and was instrumental in developing a new collaboration model between the private sector and the Ministry of Defence.
As a member of the National Operational Staff for large-scale crises operations, he represented Defence in this partnership with the Police, Fire Department, and Medical Services.
In 2013, Hans was named the Best Civil Servant in the Netherlands, and in 2018, he earned the title of Logistics Guru. Following his retirement in 2019, he became an independent entrepreneur, offering expertise in strategy development, crisis management, innovation, organizational change, logistics, and military exercises. He is also a sought-after speaker and moderator at conferences.
